Welcome to the blog!
How many of you like to save money? I mean, who doesn’t right? Today I’m going to share ways that I save money on groceries and other items! I like to use apps to earn cash back and shop at different groceries stores to save money.
We all need to eat to survive, that’s a given. But, did you ever think that you were spending too much on groceries? I used to there wasn’t a way to fight the prices at Walmart because at the end of the day we have to eat. I thought, well if we budgeted and planned out meals then we would be in a better position. While the second part is true, we can definitely ditch Walmart for some of our groceries. Here’s how:
Aldi is my new favorite place to get the majority of my groceries for three reasons. 1) Their prices are lower compared to the items I would buy at Walmart. I’ve come out of Aldi with 32 items and paid less than $60! I went to Walmart right after that and spent $50 on 8 items. Okay, okay, I bought Kali a toy for $10 but still, do you see the difference?! 2) I can buy the same items from Aldi and they may even taste better and be healthier. Check out my post here to see what items I always purchase from Aldi’s. 3) it’s close to my place. It takes me about 3 minutes to get to Aldi and even it’s crowded I can be in and out quicker than I would at Walmart or Kroger.
Cash Back Apps
Another way that I save is by using Ibotta. This app allows you to get cash back on certain items at different stores. You can get it from restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, Uber, etc. Some of the cash back takes time to hit your account – like ones from Ulta. Other purchases are immediate once you submit your receipt like for groceries. Once you have $20 worth of cash back, you can get a gift card from a selection of retailers or redeem the cash via PayPal. I always get the cash. Plus PayPal has the option to send money instantly to your debit card for a percentage of the amount. So I can have my money in less than 5 minutes.
Ebates is also a tool that you can use to get cash back on your purchases through online shopping. There are hundreds of retailers that you can choose from. All you do is shop from the Ebates app or install the browser add on and make your purchase through Ebates. Their payments are quarterly and you can get paid via check, PayPal, and even by gift cards.
Every year I buy my contacts through 1-800 Contacts using Ebates and usually get a good amount of cash back. I try to wait until the cash back is doubled or at 10%. Just recentlu I was able to get 14% cash back! I purchase two boxes – 1 for each eye since my prescription is different for each one. I usually get around $15 for that one purchase. If you’re a frequent online shopper then you can really make some extra money in items you would purchase normally.
Brick and Mortar Banks
I have many bank accounts with different financial institutions. Some are big brick and mortar banks, some are with credit unions, and some are online. Each institution serves a different purpose. For example, I use the brick and mortar big banks so that I can have easy access if I ever need that option. It’s not hard to find your Wells Fargo, Chase, Bank of America, etc in most cities. In less than a one mile radius I have access to at least 5 banks.
Where you stash your cash?
I use my online financial institutions for early access of my funds or to deter me from accessing my funds at all. I use Chime Bank for my online checking account. With them I am able to receive my paycheck two days in early! I also save on ATM fees which is amazing since they are solely an online bank.
I can withdraw up to the daily ATM limit of $500 and if I need more money, no problem, I can go to a regular common bank and request an over-the-counter withdrawal. This is like a cash advance where they pull funds off your card. I get reimbursed for the fee that the bank charges too!
I know Walmart and Kroger have services where you can pull money off of cards, I just haven’t tried it there yet. But there’s so much convenience with this that I rarely feel like I need a bank that has a physical location. Plus my checking account is really free! No monthly maintenance fees! No worrying about keeping a certain balance every statement period, no minimum amount of swipes to waive the monthly maintenance fee, etc. You can open your own Chime account here. Join me and get paid two days in advance!!
I use Ally for my online savings account. I don’t have an ATM card or any way to access my money besides making transfers. This usually takes about two days for me to receive the money which makes me think twice about whether I need it. Let’s be real, I always need it lol.
Credit unions usually have better interest rates on their products than banks. Because of that your loan rates are typically lower and your saving rates are typically higher. This is because you are a member when you join meaning you own a piece of the credit union. Unlike banks where you are a customer. Keep in mind the loan interest rates vary based on your credit score.
Stash is an investing app that I like to use because I don’t know a lot about investing right now. It’s very user friendly and it even provides helpful tips. I can easily search for a company that I am interested in and purchase a piece of a stock for as low as $5. Do you want to try Stash? You can get a $5 to try it out here. Although my dividends are a little low right now since I’m just beginning to invest, I’m excited to see what I can earn.
So those are the ways that I like to save money or earn money on the side. They are all super easy so just about anyone can do it. Do you already have these apps on your phone or device? Let me know if you use them and like them.
